Is Ohio State going to wait itself out of Jack Miller while trying to figure out 2019?

For the uninitiated, Jack Miller is the quarterback at Scottdale (Ariz.) Chaparral High School. He’s a 2020 prospect, about to start his junior year of high school. He’s 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighs close to 210 pounds. Miller is the country’s third-ranked pro-style quarterback in 2020 according to the 247Sports.com composite rankings, and was ranked by Rivals.com as that network’s 34th-best overall prospect.

Since he first camped in Columbus last June, Miller has been closely linked to the Buckeyes and has been a popular pick to eventually commit to Ohio State. Ryan Day has been to Arizona to see him, and Miller has been back to Ohio State for a game last season and this past April for the Buckeyes 2018 spring football game.

But will the Buckeyes say “yes” to a quarterback in the 2020 class while sifting through the remnants of 2019 and searching for a de facto leader in this class?

My opinion is yes, they will, if Miller does what he – and many others – think he can do during Friday Night Lights at Ohio State tomorrow evening. Miller needs to be the best quarterback in the building – at least in the 2020 class – and show Urban Meyer and the rest of his recruiting staff that there’s no doubt he’s the right man for the position in 2020.

There’s no doubt that Ohio State wants to avoid a quarterback “crisis” in 2020 like its having in 2019. On the other side of the coin, you don’t want to take a guy “too” early and have him flake on your like Emory Jones did in 2018, right? Finding the middle ground is key and Miller’s decision, if he were to make it this weekend, would likely be final  He, along with current 2020 commit Jake Wray, would love to get started recruiting the rest of that class – one of the more talented groups in recent memory – as soon as possible.
